About

Web Application Engineer

Are you passionate about technology? Are you passionate about the church? Do you want to work with other passionate people who are leading the charge to change the way the church thinks about data and technology?

Here at MonkDev, we’ve spent nearly ten years building Ekklesia 360 into a platform that’s now used by thousands of churches across the globe.  We are passionate about leading the way in helping churches and organizations broaden their reach, deepen their engagement with members, and develop their community using technology. At MonkDev you’ll be part of a high-performing team of strategists, project managers, designers, front-end developers, and software engineers who get to nerd out with code and technology.  It’s a special combination that’s not easily found. Be sure to read more about us and see our lovely faces.

Required Experience:

  • Expert knowledge and proven experience (4+ years) with PHP and MySQL in a production environment with high availability.
  • Strong experience with Javascript including experience in some modern frameworks (jQuery, Angular.js, Ember.js, etc...).
  • You must be comfortable outside of PHP & JS frameworks.
  • Very comfortable with web services (SOAP, REST, JSON/XML).
  • Basic understanding of Git, command line tools, package management and build tools.

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience working with large data sets (data mining, data analytics, data manipulation and reporting).
  • Working knowledge of Ruby on Rails.
  • Creation of API’s.
  • Experience with eCommerce product architecture.
  • Experience with software integration projects.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely within a cross-functional team to architect and implement new/updated features into the Ekklesia 360 platform.
  • Stay informed on our market and trending technologies.
  • Writing simple, clean, and beautiful code. Code is craft. However you like to word it, we’re looking for excellence and attention to detail. Yet, it’s balanced with a desire to ship early and often, and not two years later when every line is perfect and fully tested. (It’s a hard balance, don’t get us perfectionists wrong.)
  • Ability to function as a technical lead for various projects/tasks as needed. This may involve some project planning, resource planning, and deployment planning in additional to your current software engineering responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate:

MonkDev is centered around 5 core values. While the ideal candidate must have the above requirements, a good fit with our team is also a must. Here at MonkDev, we strive to be:

  • People First
  • Thought Leaders
  • Committed to Excellence
  • Results Oriented
  • Seeking the Common Good

Each of these values is lived out in how we conduct ourselves with our clients as well as our team.
